LI KA CHUNG
PROFESSIONAL VIOLINIST & EXPERIENCED VIOLIN TEACHER
BIOGRPAHY
Born and started learning violin in Hong Kong, Simon showed his early promise as a violinist when he was chosen as the leader of various youth and school orchestras. At the age of 18, he decided to take his interest in violin into account and pursued studying music abroad in England. During his tenure in the UK, he was appointed the leader of the Keele Philharmonic Orchestra and co- leader of the University of Chichester Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, he won the first-runner up prize in the Robert Headley Award Showcase Competition in 2012. He was also invited to perform in several prestigious venues such as St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and Goodwood House in front of the British Royal family, and numerous countries including Austria, France and Switzerland. In 2012, he graduated in England with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with honours, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Performance aided by the Funtington Music Group’s Music Scholarship.
In order to become a better violinist, Simon continued his violin studies in the United States of America. Fending off competitions from all over the world, he was granted a full scholarship by the Nicholls Foundation to study in the Nicholls Conservatory in Louisiana. Taught by Mr. James Alexander, Simon focused in learning the mechanics of violin playing while enhancing his concert repertoire at the same time. He was also given the chance to teach in the school’s junior academy so that he can improve his teaching skills. Simon’s time in the states proved to be very productive as he had since became a more well-rounded musician and educator.
Simon decided to return home in Hong Kong to work as a full time musician and teacher after spending years abroad. His talent had immediately been recognized, as he was taken up as a violinist by Hong Kong String Orchestra and Hong Kong Festival Orchestra. Moreover, his teaching credentials had landed him the job as the conductor of Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary School Orchestra. He had collaborated with a number of famous musicians on stage such as Mr. Andres Cardenas, Mr. Jian Wang, Mr. Trey Lee, Mr. Vassily Sinaisky, Ms. Yao Jue and Mr. Yundi Li.
